  • Spatial Analysis for Urban and Rural Land Planning

    Credits: 4 PDH

    PDH Course Description:

This course introduces the principles and applications of spatial analysis as it pertains to the planning and development of urban and rural environments. Engineers, planners, and surveyors will learn how spatial data, geographic information systems (GIS), and modeling tools support critical decisions in infrastructure, zoning, transportation, environmental protection, and land-use management.

The course emphasizes the integration of spatial analysis into engineering workflows to promote informed, data-driven planning strategies.

    Topics:

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

    • Understand the fundamentals of spatial analysis and its tools in land planning
    • Differentiate between urban and rural spatial data needs and planning challenges
    • Apply spatial techniques to land suitability, zoning, and infrastructure modeling
    • Interpret outputs from GIS and remote sensing to inform planning decisions
    • Evaluate environmental and socio-economic impacts using spatial data
    • Integrate spatial analysis into regulatory frameworks and engineering project design
