Topic outline

  • HVAC Monitoring and Control Systems

    Credits: 3 PDH

    PDH Course Description:

This course provides a comprehensive exploration into the principles, technologies, and applications of monitoring and control systems in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems.

Emphasizing engineering principles, the course examines how feedback, control logic, and sensor networks are used to optimize building performance, maintain occupant comfort, and reduce energy consumption. It further explores the evolution of HVAC automation, including conventional direct digital control (DDC) systems and modern advancements such as IoT-enabled smart systems and integrated building automation platforms.

    Topics:

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

    • Explain the fundamentals of HVAC control theory and feedback mechanisms.
    • Identify and describe key components of HVAC control systems including sensors, actuators, controllers, and user interfaces.
    • Distinguish between open-loop and closed-loop control configurations in HVAC applications.
    • Interpret system diagrams, control sequences, and BAS (Building Automation System) logic.
    • Evaluate energy optimization techniques using control strategies.
    • Understand communication protocols like BACnet and Modbus used in HVAC systems.
    • Assess current trends in remote access, IoT, and smart HVAC control.
    • Apply knowledge to troubleshoot and optimize HVAC control systems in real-world settings.
