  • Network Cabling for Industrial and Harsh Environments

    PDH Course Description:

    This course provides an in-depth examination of network cabling strategies tailored for industrial facilities and harsh environmental conditions. It explores the selection, installation, and protection of copper and fiber-optic cabling systems used in settings where vibration, moisture, temperature extremes, electromagnetic interference (EMI), and mechanical stress are common. 

    Emphasis is placed on standards compliance, material resilience, grounding techniques, enclosure protection ratings (NEMA/IP), and real-world applications in manufacturing plants, oil and gas installations, marine environments, and other demanding sectors.

    By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

    • Understand the challenges of deploying network cabling in industrial and environmentally extreme settings.
    • Evaluate cable types, shielding methods, and jacketing materials suitable for specific environmental conditions.
    • Identify relevant installation codes, TIA and ISO/IEC standards, and environmental classifications (e.g., IP ratings, NEMA enclosures).
    • Implement best practices for grounding, bonding, and surge protection in harsh environments.
    • Design structured cabling layouts that account for mechanical vibration, UV exposure, corrosion, and EMI.
    • Assess maintenance strategies and system reliability concerns for long-term operational integrity.
