Topic outline

  • Electrical Load Calculation and Demand Factors

    Credits: 4 PDH

    PDH Course Description:

This course provides a comprehensive examination of electrical load calculations and demand factor principles used in designing and evaluating electrical systems for residential, commercial, and industrial applications. It covers the theoretical basis for determining electrical loads, applying demand and diversity factors, and ensuring code-compliant, energy-efficient electrical designs.

The course emphasizes the use of the NEC (National Electrical Code), standard engineering methodologies, and real-world application techniques for accurate load analysis and system optimization.

    Topics:

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

    • Understand the fundamental concepts of electrical load calculations and their importance in system design.
    • Apply NEC guidelines and standard engineering practices to determine electrical loads for various building types.
    • Differentiate between demand factors, diversity factors, and load factors, and apply them appropriately.
    • Calculate branch circuit, feeder, and service entrance loads using both manual and tabular methods.
    • Analyze the implications of load profiles on energy efficiency and electrical system performance.
    • Evaluate existing systems and identify load balancing and capacity issues.
