  • Principles of Engineering Project Management

    PDH Course Description:

    This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the principles and methodologies of engineering project management for licensed professionals and technical practitioners. Through a detailed exploration of the project life cycle, planning systems, cost and schedule control, contract frameworks, and risk management, engineers will gain the tools necessary to lead and deliver complex technical projects effectively and ethically. Emphasis is placed on integrating engineering design processes with structured project governance, stakeholder engagement, and regulatory compliance, in alignment with U.S. licensure standards and professional obligations.

    Participants will engage with current industry practices such as Critical Path Method (CPM), Earned Value Management (EVM), and Quality Management Systems (QMS) including ISO 9001. The course also covers leadership models, procurement strategies, legal frameworks, and the ethical imperatives of licensed practice. This course is structured to support both foundational understanding and advanced project delivery strategies in multidisciplinary engineering environments.

    Topics:

    Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

    • Explain the full engineering project life cycle and identify the roles of the engineer within each phase.
    • Develop comprehensive project plans including scopes, schedules, budgets, and resource allocations.
    • Apply tools such as WBS, CPM, and EVM to plan, monitor, and control engineering projects.
    • Evaluate risks, apply mitigation strategies, and implement quality management protocols in accordance with industry standards.
    • Interpret and manage contractual terms, delivery methods, and procurement procedures within U.S. legal and regulatory frameworks.
    • Demonstrate effective communication and leadership practices in multidisciplinary teams and stakeholder environments.
    • Uphold ethical standards in engineering project decisions in accordance with NSPE and state licensure boards.
