Kansas Professional Engineer Renewal
Kansas professional engineers complete 30 continuing-education units during each biennial renewal period, with at least 24 units related to health, safety, property, and welfare.
Complete 30 CEUs every two years, including at least 24 HSPW CEUs. No separate ethics minimum is stated. No more than 5 CEUs may come from self-study, and up to 15 qualifying CEUs may carry into the next renewal period.

Course Eligibility
A qualifying activity needs a clear purpose and objective that maintains, improves, or expands skills and knowledge relevant to technical practice and the protection of health, safety, property, and welfare.
Online and Self-Study Courses
Kansas accepts qualifying webinars, video courses, correspondence courses, and self-study. A self-study course must be offered by a third-party sponsor and include evidence of achievement through a final graded test.
Only 5 self-study CEUs may be used in one renewal period, and proof of course completion is required. Because the Board distinguishes interactive activities from self-study, licensees should confirm how an online course is delivered and documented before relying on its classification.
Exemptions and License Status
A licensee in the first renewal period is exempt from Kansas continuing education. The renewal form and fee are still required.
A licensee serving honorably on full-time active duty in the United States armed forces may qualify for an exemption with supporting documentation.
An exemption may apply when the licensee attests that, for at least 21 months of the preceding two-year period, the licensee was a government-employed technical professional assigned outside the United States.
A PE may elect inactive status at renewal without completing CEUs but must timely submit the renewal form and fee. Reinstatement generally requires proof of 30 qualifying CEUs earned during the preceding two years.
Reporting and Random Audit
Licensees document their CEUs by maintaining an activity list and certifying compliance when renewing. The Board randomly audits licensees during each two-year renewal period and requires selected professionals to submit supporting proof.
Records must be retained for at least four years. If carryover is claimed, the audit report and attendance records for the earlier reporting period must also be supplied during an audit.
