Topic outline

  • Testing, Monitoring, and Analysis of Electrical Circuits

    Credits: 6 PDH

    PDH Course Description:

This course provides the basics of circuit measurement and some of the more common and basic testing, monitoring, and analysis devices used to measure voltage, current, resistance, power, and frequency. There are other quantities involved in electrical circuits, such as capacitance, inductance, impedance, true power, and effective power. It is possible to measure any circuit quantity once the proper circuit measuring device is selected.

    Topics:

    • circuit measurement, in-circuit and out-of-circuit meters
    • d’Arsonval meter
    • use of a rectifiers in ac meters
    • damping as it applies to meter movements and methods by which damping is accomplished
    • ammeters, ammeter sensitivity, safety precautions for ammeter use
    • voltmeters, voltmeter sensitivity, safety precautions for voltmeter use
    • ohmmeters, safety precautions for ohmmeter use
    • meggers, normal and abnormal indications on a megger, safety precautions
    • multimeter, multimeter functions, how ac and dc scales of a multimeter differ
    • hook-on type voltameter
    • wattmeter and a watt-hour meter
    • frequency meters
