    This course examines the dual-use nature of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, synthetic biology, nanotechnology, and advanced autonomous systems, with a focus on the catastrophic global risks they pose if weaponized, misused, or poorly governed.

    Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

    • Understand emerging technologies that hold the potential for civilization-scale disruption.
    • Examine the technological underpinnings, current development trajectories, and speculative future pathways of these technologies.
    • Evaluate the inherent risks, ethical concerns, and existential dangers they may introduce.
    • Understand global governance frameworks, risk mitigation strategies, and engineering responsibilities for safeguarding society against misuse or uncontrolled evolution of these powerful innovations.
