PDH Course Description:
This course provides a comprehensive exploration of the ethical principles and professional responsibilities that are essential in the practice of engineering.Engineering ethics is the application of moral principles and professional standards to the practice of engineering. Unlike purely technical disciplines, engineering directly impacts public safety, environmental sustainability, and economic systems. Topics:
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:- Identify the foundational ethical theories used in professional engineering and explain how each can be applied to analyze a practical engineering dilemma.
- Apply the NSPE, ASCE, ASME, and IEEE codes of ethics to scenarios involving conflicts between employer or client directives and public safety obligations.
- Understand the conditions under which a licensed engineer’s duty of confidentiality is overridden by the obligation to protect public safety.
- Evaluate the ethical and legal dimensions of conflicts of interest, gifts, and improper inducements in engineering practice.
- Explain the rights, obligations, and potential consequences associated with whistleblowing.
