Topic outline

  • Principles of Biomedical Imaging Technologies

    Credits: 6 PDH

    PDH Course Description:

This course provides an in-depth exploration of the engineering, physics, and computational principles that form the foundation of biomedical imaging technologies. It examines the scientific mechanisms and instrumentation behind the primary imaging modalities used in clinical and research settings, including X-ray, CT, MRI, ultrasound, PET, SPECT, optical imaging, and emerging hybrid systems.

With emphasis on image formation, signal processing, safety considerations, and real-world implementation, this course equips professionals with the analytical tools to understand, evaluate, and contribute to the advancement of biomedical imaging technologies. The course also explores interdisciplinary integration, regulatory standards, and the role of imaging in personalized medicine.

    Topics:

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

    • Explain the physical principles underlying each biomedical imaging modality.
    • Analyze the function and design of imaging instrumentation and signal processing systems.
    • Compare the strengths, limitations, and clinical applications of imaging technologies.
    • Understand image reconstruction methods, including Fourier and tomographic techniques.
    • Apply safety, ethical, and regulatory considerations in imaging system deployment.
    • Explore current and emerging trends in multimodal and molecular imaging technologies.
