    PDH Course Description:

    This professional development course provides a comprehensive examination of the engineering principles and practices that enabled the construction and operation of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. The LHC is the world’s largest and most powerful particle accelerator, buried 100 meters underground and spanning 27 kilometers in circumference beneath the France–Switzerland border. The course traces the convergence of civil, mechanical, electrical, cryogenic, structural, and systems engineering disciplines to support the LHC’s extreme environmental and functional requirements.

    Topics include tunneling methods through complex geology, advanced cryogenic cooling systems maintaining superconducting states at near absolute zero, design and integration of high-field superconducting magnets, ultra-high vacuum systems, radiation shielding, and seismic mitigation.
