Topic outline

  • Designing with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)

    Credits: 4 PDH

    PDH Course Description:

This course provides a comprehensive exploration of programmable logic controllers (PLCs), covering their design, configuration, integration, and troubleshooting in modern industrial control systems.

Participants will learn about hardware architecture, programming techniques, interface design, I/O configuration, and communication protocols, with a strong emphasis on engineering design principles and real-world applications. Through detailed technical guidance, this course prepares engineers to confidently select, design, and implement PLC-based systems across a variety of industries.

    Topics:

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

    • Explain the hardware and software components of a PLC system
    • Design and program ladder logic and function block diagrams for industrial applications
    • Analyze and apply I/O addressing, timers, counters, and control structures
    • Select appropriate PLCs and interface modules based on system requirements
    • Integrate PLCs with human-machine interfaces (HMIs) and other industrial networks
    • Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and maintenance of PLC systems
    • Evaluate safety and reliability considerations in PLC-based control architectures
