Massachusetts Professional Engineer Renewal
Massachusetts currently does not require professional development hours or continuing education as a condition of renewing a professional engineer license.
No mandatory PDH total, ethics course, carryover calculation, or CE audit applies to the ordinary Massachusetts PE renewal under the current statutes, Board regulations, and renewal instructions. Licenses renew every two years and expire June 30 of even-numbered years.

Voluntary Professional Development
The absence of a mandatory PDH total does not prevent a Massachusetts PE from taking technical, managerial, legal, or ethics education. Voluntary learning can help an engineer remain current with codes, standards, technology, and professional responsibilities.
Engineers Licensed in Multiple States
A Massachusetts PE who also holds a license elsewhere must separately satisfy each other licensing board’s requirements. Massachusetts’ lack of mandatory continuing education does not waive another jurisdiction’s total hours, ethics content, approved-provider rules, deadlines, or audit obligations.
Courses taken voluntarily may be useful for another state only when they meet that state’s subject, provider, delivery, assessment, timing, and documentation rules.
License Renewal
Massachusetts professional engineer and land surveyor licenses expire every two years on June 30 of even-numbered years.
Licensees renew through the Commonwealth’s ePLACE system and should confirm their license record, current instructions, required forms, and applicable fees.
An expired license does not authorize practice. A licensee who misses renewal should follow the Board’s current late-renewal or reinstatement procedure before resuming regulated practice.
Rules and statutes can change. Review the official renewal page and Board regulations each cycle rather than relying indefinitely on an older no-CE summary.
Voluntary Recordkeeping
Massachusetts does not currently prescribe a PE continuing-education certificate-retention period because it does not require PDH for renewal. Engineers may nevertheless maintain a personal professional-development record for multistate licensing, employment, project qualification, or future reference.
