The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands renews Professional Engineer licenses every two years but does not currently establish a general mandatory PDH or continuing-education total for routine PE renewal.

Track the expiration date printed for your license
Licensee remains responsible
The licensee must keep contact information current and renew on time. Failure to receive a mailed or emailed notice does not shift responsibility for timely renewal away from the licensee.
Expiration has immediate consequences: Failure to renew by the stated expiration date renders the license null and void. Late fees may accrue for each month after the renewal date.

Professional obligations continue without a PDH quota
Competent practice
The Board licenses engineers by recognized engineering branch and may discipline incompetence, negligence, misconduct, improper sealing, or other violations of law and professional-conduct rules.
Public protection
The licensing system exists to safeguard life, health, property, and public welfare. Engineers remain responsible for maintaining the knowledge needed for their assignments even when no numerical PDH total applies.
Voluntary professional development remains valuable
Online-PDH courses may support technical competence, employer training, certifications, and continuing-education obligations imposed by another licensing jurisdiction. They are not presently needed to satisfy a stated CNMI PE PDH quota.

Inactive and Lapsed Licenses
Reinstatement is generally available for three years
An expired, lapsed, or inactive license may generally be reinstated within three years after expiration upon payment of the applicable reinstatement amount and penalties. The Board may require a written explanation or interview demonstrating competence.
An inactive license not reactivated within three years becomes null and void, requiring a new application under then-current licensure requirements. Engineers should retain education and practice records that can help demonstrate competence during reactivation or reinstatement.
