Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Requirements

Kentucky - Continuing Educational Requirements:
Hours Required:
30 PDH hours biennially
(1 PDH unit = 1 CPC unit = 1 CPD unit)

Date of Renewal:
  • June 30st (odd years - engineers: last names begin with A – K)
  • June 30st (even years - engineers: last names begin with L – Z)
Board Approved Course Providers? The Kentucky board does not pre-approve course providers or specific courses. Each
engineer must determine whether a course satisfies their state board’s CPC requirements.
Approved Subject Matter:
  • Continuing education hours shall be directly related to the professional growth and development of the professional engineer and must cover technical, ethical, or managerial subject matter.

Are Online Courses Allowed? Online, web-based courses are specifically listed as an approved activity, with no limit on the amount of hours received through online continuing education.

may be carried forward into the next renewal period.

Other Specific Requirements:
  1. Dual Licensees: PDH units earned by an engineer also holding a land surveying license may count toward the land surveyor requirements.
  2. Recordkeeping for Audit Purposes: PDH completion records must be maintained for a minimum of 4 years for audit purposes. (See our Audit-Assist Guarantee!)
