Wyoming Professional Engineer Renewal
Wyoming Professional Engineers must complete at least 30 continuing professional competency units during each two-year renewal period. Up to 15 excess CPCs may be carried into the next renewal period.
A Wyoming license expires at the end of its two-year renewal period. The renewal application requires verification of 30 qualifying CPCs, unless a specific exemption or the nonresident-comity provision applies.
Core Requirements
| Requirement | Wyoming rule |
|---|---|
| Total credit | Complete at least 30 CPCs during the applicable two-year renewal period. |
| Relevant content | A qualifying course or activity must have a clear purpose and objective and maintain, improve, or expand skills and knowledge relevant to the licensee's field of practice. |
| Ethics or HSW | Chapter 4 does not prescribe a separate ethics, laws-and-rules, or health-safety-welfare minimum within the 30 CPC total. |
| Carryover | Up to 15 CPCs may be carried forward into the immediately following renewal period. |
| Provider approval | The rule evaluates qualifying content and documentation rather than requiring every provider or course to appear on a Board preapproval list. The Board has final authority over credit claimed. |
| Dual licensees | A professional licensed in both engineering and land surveying must complete at least 10 CPCs in each discipline and at least 30 CPCs in total. |
Course Formats
Qualifying Credit
| Activity | Credit treatment |
|---|---|
| Contact hour | One 50-minute contact hour of professional development generally equals 1 CPC. |
| College credit | One semester hour equals 45 CPCs; one quarter hour equals 30 CPCs. |
| Continuing-education unit | One CEU equals 10 CPCs. |
| Teaching | Eligible teaching receives a multiplier of two, but only for the first presentation of the course or seminar and not for full-time faculty teaching. |
| Writing or patents | Each published paper, article, monograph, book, or patent may earn 10 CPCs. |
| Society participation | Qualifying active service earns up to 2 CPCs per organization per year. Attendance or membership alone is insufficient. |
| Self-directed study | Self-directed study or research is limited to 2 CPCs per renewal period. |
A structured Online-PDH course relevant to the engineer's field of practice can fit Wyoming's continuing-education, correspondence, video, or tutorial categories. Course materials, assessment, completion tracking, and a detailed certificate help document the clear objective, duration, and successful completion required to support the CPC claim.
Records and Audit
The licensee is responsible for maintaining the evidence used to support CPCs claimed on a renewal application. Every application is subject to audit verification, and selected applicants must submit their CPC documentation to Board staff.
If the Audit Committee issues a Notice of Deficiency, the applicant has 60 days from the notice date to provide satisfactory corrective documentation or request Board review of denied credit. Failure to respond satisfactorily can result in denial of renewal.
Special Circumstances
A newly licensed professional renews by December 31 of the following year and is exempt from CPCs for that initial renewal. Up to 15 CPCs earned during the first period may be carried forward.
A resident of another jurisdiction may satisfy Wyoming by documenting compliance with the CPC requirements of the resident jurisdiction. If that jurisdiction has no CPC requirement, the licensee must meet Wyoming's Chapter 4 requirements.
Uniformed-service exemptions are governed by Wyoming statute. A licensee experiencing disability, illness, or another extenuating circumstance may petition the Board for an exemption; approval should not be assumed.
A license lapsed for less than two years may be reactivated with the required application, fees, and 30 compliant CPCs. After two years, renewal is unavailable and the applicant must follow the Board's relicensure process.
