Professional Development Hours (PDH) Requirements

The Alaska State Board of Registration for Architects and Engineers.


Alaska - Continuing Educational Requirements:
Hours Required: 24 PDH biennially (1 PDH unit = 1 CPC unit = 1 CPD unit)

Renewal Date:

December 31st (each odd year)
Board Approved Courses or Providers?
The Alaska board does not pre-approve course providers nor specific courses. Each engineer must determine whether a CPC course satisfies their state board’s CPC requirements.

Approved Subject Matter:
  • Courses must be relevant to the engineer’s field of practice and may include content of a technical, ethical, or managerial nature.
  • Subject matter must address the health, safety, and welfare of the public.
  • Persons holding Alaska registration in more than one area must meet a minimum of 8 PDH per biennial period in each registration area.
Are Online Courses Allowed? Online, web-based courses are specifically listed as an approved activity, with no limit on the amount of hours received through online continuing education.

PDH Carryover:

12 PDH (max)
may be carried forward into the next renewal period.

Other Specific Requirements:
  1. Unacceptable CPC Units: The Board specifically states that personal self-improvement courses, equipment demonstrations, trade shows, or topics unrelated to the licensee’s field of practice will not be allowed for PDH credit.
  2. Reciprocity Allowance: If a registrant is currently registered in another jurisdiction which has mandatory CE requirements that are substantially similar to or exceed those of Alaska, the registrant may certify that he/she has met all CE requirements in that jurisdiction.
  3. Recordkeeping for Audit Purposes: PDH completion records must be maintained for a minimum of 4 years for audit purposes.
