Alaska recognizes continuing education activities in technical and professional subjects related to the registrant’s scope of practice. Qualifying activities may include professional courses, seminars, workshops, structured online courses, teaching or presenting, technical publishing, society participation, patents, outreach activities, and certain in-house programs when properly documented.
Activities should support professional competency and should be connected to the practice of engineering or another registered design profession held by the licensee.
Alaska licensees should avoid relying on undocumented or informal learning activities. If an activity is not supported by a certificate, course record, structured report, or other documentation, it may be difficult to defend during an audit.
Registrants holding multiple Alaska registrations should confirm whether their continuing education activities adequately relate to each area of registration.
Licensees are responsible for maintaining documentation that supports PDH claimed for renewal. Records may include completion certificates, course descriptions, dates of attendance, provider information, structured reports, and other evidence showing that the activity was completed.
Supporting documentation should be retained and made available if requested by the Alaska Board.
Before renewing an Alaska PE license, confirm the expiration date, complete at least 24 PDH during the biennial renewal period, verify that coursework is relevant to professional practice, retain all documentation, confirm any carryover does not exceed 12 PDH, and review the current Alaska Board renewal instructions.
