Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Requirements
New Mexico State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Professional Surveyors.

Subject New Mexico - Continuing Educational Requirements:
Hours Required 30 hours biennially (1 PDH unit = 1 CPC unit = 1 CPD unit)
Renewal Dates:
  • Dec. 31st (even-numbered years for engineers with license numbers ending with an even number)
  • Dec. 31st (odd-numbered years for engineers with license numbers ending with an odd number)
Board Approval The New Mexico Board does not pre-approve providers or specific courses. Each engineer must determine whether an activity meets the Board’s requirements.
Approved Subject Matter:
  • Must have a clear purpose and objective which will maintain, improve, or expand the skills and knowledge of the licensee relevant to the practice of engineering.
  • A minimum of 4 PDH must be earned in ethics.
  • There is no carry-over of ethic hours.
    More than 2 hours in ethics will only count towards the general
    total required 30 PDHs.
Are online courses accepted? Online courses that require the engineer pass a quiz to receive credit can be used to earn all required hours.
PDH Carryover: 15 PDH (max) may be carried forward into the next renewal period.

Other Specific Requirements:
  1. Dual licensees: the PDH requirements remain 30 biennially; though, half of the required credits must pertain to each profession.
  2. Recordkeeping for Audit Purposes: PDH completion records must be maintained for a minimum of 3 years for audit purposes. (See our Audit-Assist Guarantee!)
