Board Approved Courses or Providers?
The Ohio board does not pre-approve course providers or specific courses.

Each engineer must determine whether a course satisfies their state board’s CPC requirements. You are responsible for making sure that the courses taken meet the requirements specified in Ohio R.C. section 4733.151.

Courses, conferences, seminars and workshops in technical, ethical or managerial topics relevant to the practice of engineering or surveying are acceptable.

Providers must also meet the requirements specified in Ohio R.C. section 4733.151. When choosing a course provider, you will want to choose providers that are able to demonstrate that they have knowledge and experience in the areas that they are providing courses.

Approved Subject Matter: Courses must cover material which is technical, ethical, or managerial content relevant to the practice of engineering. Business or personal development skills, and basic computer skills not directly relative to engineering, and subjects that are considered elementary or entry-level and normally expected to have been completed by a PE prior to registration are not accepted. The Board may require additional information to prove that courses covering managerial skills are relevant to the engineer’s practice.
Approved Subject Matter?
and are online courses allowed?
The Ohio Board recognizes several different activities that will fulfill the CPD requirements. The Board accepts online courses, as well as courses built upon technical articles found within trade publications, journals, magazines.
PDH Carryover:
15 PDH (max)
may be carried forward into the next renewal period.

Other Specific Requirements:
  1. For dual licensees, the number of PDH remains 30 biennially; however, one-third of the required credits must pertain to each profession.
  2. Recordkeeping for Audit Purposes: PDH completion records must be maintained for a minimum of 4 years for audit purposes. (See our Audit-Assist Guarantee!)
  3. What does the Board consider acceptable documentation of attendance? - A certificate of attendance (completion) that shows the date(s), the number of continuing professional development hours earned, the location, the topic and the instructor’s name.
